Termite Bait Stations-Which system suits me best?

So, why are there so many Termite Bait Stations on the market, and how do I know which one is going to suit me?

We’ll start with the basics of termite behaviour, and this will provide you with useful information as to why certain Termite Bait Stations will suit your needs, and others won’t.

Termites are extremely timid in nature. They are unable to withstand sunlight, they are blind and almost defenceless against predators which are almost everything…. For these reasons, termites keep themselves concealed in tunnels or ‘termite leads’ which they construct out of their own faeces, in order to keep out of harms way. This fact alone, makes termite bait stations extremely important in their operation and construction, as there needs to be a high level of protection from predators, sunlight and even disturbance just to provide a safe destination for feeding.

So lets talk about the different termite bait stations which are on the market, and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each particular termite bait station.

Starting with the best known Termite Bait Station on the market, Exterra. The Exterra Termite Bait Station is good quality product with a range of good features. They are of sturdy construction, and provide good shelter for foraging termites, a palatable food source, and a large cavity for the application of an IGR Termite Bait. The negatives, are that the product is only for the professional market, and these termite bait stations are only available to registered Exterra Installers, and they are quite expensive. The termite bait stations also have a screw off lid, which can get stuck, causing the entire termite bait station to move in the ground, twisting and breaking invaluable termite leads, and scaring the attacking termites away.

The next termite bait Stations are the timber wedge type termite bait Stations. There are a few versions in the market, but one of the majors (and I believe that these are now sold at Bunnings) are the Green Termite Bait Stations. These termite Bait Stations are great for attracting termites. They are a wedge shaped piece of pine, which is hammered into the ground which provides an excellent source of food for the aggregation of termites, however their major downfall is that they are limited to what type of treatment options are available. Termiticide Dust, liquid or foam is possible, however these are very restrictive methods as there is no option for the tried and tested method of termite baiting via an IGR. This restricts treatment to a small percentage of viable options.

Another common termite bait station is the Nemisis Termite Bait Station. These are similar to the Exterra method, with timbers installed into an in  ground station, however they are nowhere near as sturdy, and are susceptible to flex. They also have a screw off lid which we have discussed before. The other downside with these termite bait stations, is the limited cavity space for application of an IGR for conventional Termite bait application. They are a far smaller station than the Exterra, and while they will suit dusting, liquid or foam treatments, the conventional method of Termite Bait station application is restricted.

Now for the Termicure Termite Bait Station… We developed these ourselves, and when we did, we looked at the advantages and disadvantages of the other termite bait stations on the market, and developed the most versatile product we could, to provide the best termite bait station on the market. The Termicure Termite Bait Stations are sturdy, and large enough for all methods of termite bait station treatment including dust, liquid, foam, conventional Bait matrix application, and most recently, the installation of the ‘Always Active’ Termiticide rods. The cavity is large for successful bait matrix application and feeding, they come with a clip on lid to prevent breaking of valuable termite leads, and they are available for use by the homeowner. The attractant materials are varied for multiple species attraction and they have been designed for direct soil contact in order to provide the most aggregation of termites for eradication. In short, the Termicure Termite Bait Stations have far more features and are more dynamic than anything comparable in the market. We’ll even provide you with a First Strike Guarantee. If you have a competitors station, which goes active before ours, we’ll give you a years worth of Termite Bait Matrix, free of charge!!!
