You may have come across the term ‘Kill termites without poison’ if you’ve been looking on the internet for information on how to get rid of termites. There are two commonly used methods of treating active termites, one is with a chemical formulation (poison), and the other is with a bait matrix, which is considered no toxic to humans or domestic animals.

The bait matrix option is a product which can be mixed and applied to areas where termites are feeding. The bait matrix contains an ‘insect growth regulator’, which methodically kills off attacking termites. The insect growth regulator is not considered a poison because it causes no harmful effects to humans or domestic pets, yet is deadly to termites because, for lack of a better explanation, they become addicted to the product. The insect growth regulator in the bait matrix prevents the termites from moulting, systematically killing the nest.

This is how professionals kill termites without poison, which is why it can be suitable for use by the homeowner. The insect growth regulator (chlorfluazuron, hexaflumuron are both different types of insect growth regulators) is mixed into a palatable powder, which is mixed by the user into a paste and applied to live termites. The process can be tricky as there are different products of varying quality, and all have different mixing instructions to get the matrix just right.

Being a huge advocate for DIY termite treatments under the right conditions, Termicure has now adapted a professional bait matrix delivery kit so that you the homeowner can kill termites without poison, and without harm to family or pets.

Our live termite treatment kits include professional Termite Bait Matrix packs, combined with a specifically developed live termite treatment pouch which allows the homeowner to mix and apply the product in a simple and effective method.

Simply take one of our 100gram professional termite bait matrix packs, and empty it into our treatment pouch. Add 350ml of water and apply the pouch to the termite activity using the adhesive provided. The termites will feed on the bait within the pouch, and transfer the product through the colony without the need for poisons.

There are multiple other products available on the internet, by so called high quality DIY suppliers, but in most cases, these products are cheaply manufactured copies of good products, which simply don’t work. We ONLY supply high quality PROFESSIONAL termite products which are proven by the industry. We’ve developed a system for our clients to kill termites without poison, so that homeowners can have access to products which work.

As well as proven professional products, we will provide you with full support on how to manage your treatment, so that you can kill termites without poison, and without paying a fortune.

The professional termite management market determines what products are the best, and which ones simply don’t work.

At Termicure, we don’t attempt to re invent the wheel by producing new products in an attempt to revolutionise the termite management industry. Multinationals such as DowAgroScience, and Sherwood Chemicals spend Millions of dollars on developing products which provide Termite Professionals with the results required by the industry.

Unfortunately, most of the other DIY Termite Bait manufacturers (no names here) race off to China, and have a cheap termite baiting product produced, without the R & D required. In short, EVERY SINGLE DIY TERMITE BAIT product we tested, simply wasn’t consumed by attacking termites. What this means is that if Termites won’t take the bait, then the colony will continue feeding and spreading, and the homeowner is wasting their time and money.

At Termicure, we simply take existing products, and develop a system which simplifies the processes to make it suitable for the homeowner to successfully protect or eradicate termites from their property. WE ONLY USE COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE, PROFESSIONALLY TESTED AND PROVEN PRODUCTS. That’s right, all of the bait products we sell to you, are used in vast quantities by the Professional Termite Industry.

The Sentricon ‘Always Active’ Rods which we have integrated into our Termicure ‘Active’ Packs are an extremely effective and commercially proven beyond any doubt. The Sentricon ‘Always Active’ Termiticide Rods changed the industry, and dramatically increased the success of termite baiting in Australia. That’s why we’ve integrated the ‘Always Active’ Rods into our ingrained station packs.

Termatrix Termite Bait is also a high end Termite Bait Matrix used by Thousands of termite professionals every day. We’ve integrated them into our Live Termite Treatment Packs and simply changed the delivery method to allow for easy mixing and application in small volumes. In most cases, Termite Professionals are mixing bait matrix in larger quantities which are not practical for the homeowner, so we just created a user friendly option for DIY Termite Baiting.

Both of these products are extremely successful and proven, throughout the professional termite industry. We’ve combined our bait stations and extensive experience to simplify the processes to enable successful termite baiting by the homeowner.

Our technical team carries multi state termite professional qualification, and is available to assist your needs in successful DIY Termite Treatment. if you would like to speak with our technical support team, call 1300 283 764 or email direct at info@termicure.com.au

The process of protection your home from termites with termite baits is not Rocket Science, so why not make your own termite baits. There are some key points which need to be considered, but with some simple DIY ingenuity, you can build your own system to keep termites out. Believe it or not, some retailers sell these stations to the public, without the need for custom manufactured, professional products.

There are some basic tools and materials required. What you’ll need…

1-A hacksaw

2-A battery drill

3-some drill bits

4-PVC Pipe (90mm stormwater pipe is fine)

5-2 suitable 90mm end caps.

6-PVC Glue

So, to successfully make your own termite baits, simply take a piece of 90mm PVC pipe, and cut it to a length of approximately 220mm. Termites predominantly forage in the upper 2-300mm of soil, so going too much deeper will be pointless, and going any shorter than about 205mm will be too small to fit the Termiticide Rod without modification.

Make your own termite baits with 90mm stormwater pipe and two pipe caps.

Once you have cut your pipe, glue on one of the end caps to form the bottom of the station. Drill multiple holes throughout the body of the pipe and end cap to create access for foraging termites to enter the station. Don’t remove too much material so that the station fills up with soil and debris.

Make your own termite baits

Keep the other end cap without gluing it, and this becomes your lid which you can remove to service and check your stations…..and that’s it! Now all you have yo do is insert your ‘Always Active’ Rods and you have a termite bait station which is as good as any on the market. Install the stations into the soil areas around your property, and service/monitor the system approximately every 3 months!

Insert your Termiticide Rod into your station

You may not win any awards for the appearance of the station, but they will be practical.

Termites can attack at any time of year, but there is most certainly a ‘Termite Season’, so if you haven’t had a termite inspection recently, then keep reading…

Like most other insects, peak termite activity occurs during times of high humidity, such as spring and summer. From about October, we start to see a major increase in termite activity, through their colonising flights. Flying termites are a real phenomenon which occurs when a termite colony releases reproductives. The reproductives are simply termites with wings, which fly out of the nest in swarms, and are blown around on the wind into areas where they drop their wings and find a mate….and this is how new colonies are formed.

Flying Termites identification

During the termite season, the winged termites will often be found in fly screens, on the front patio or inside your roof. They swarm from the nest in huge numbers and are at the mercy of the wind as to where they land. One major identifying feature of flying termites (known as alates), is the presence of two pairs of wings, which are equal in size. They are quite cumbersome in the air, and will appear to be flapping their wings quite slowly in comparison to other insects of similar size. They are usually honey coloured, to a darker, almost black with pale see through wings.

Flying termites with 2 pairs of wings, equal in size

If you are finding the winged critters around your home, then it’s almost a certainty that there is an active termite colony on your property, or a neighbours so you need to be vigilant. While termites are active at all times of year, we find that they are most active during the warmest months, and they are responsible for larger amounts of damage, much faster than at other times of the year.

Flying termites seen during termite season

Wings are often the only remnants found after a colonising flight, which can mean that a mating pair have managed to sneak away into a sheltered area to begin the reproduction of the next homeowners disaster. Finding wings does not necessarily mean that you’ll have a termite colony starting on your property, but it’s a damned good reason to get your property checked out and your termite management system in order.

Flying termites (alates) caught in a fly screen

Due to the increased termite activity over the spring and summer, there are often more instances of their presence found by homeowners during gardening and other household chores. Termites are an extremely important part of our ecosystem, but we simply have to manage their presence to keep them from damaging our property. Get your home inspected on an annual basis (as a minimum) and have a termite barrier, or a termite baiting system installed to help reduce the risk of your home being attacked. Termites attack up to 30% of all homes in some areas of Australia. Tasmania has the least amount of registered termite activity of any Australian state, with certain pockets of Victoria, NSW and the Eastern Seaboard of Australia being areas of some of the highest risk of termite attack. Every state has extremely high risk areas, so wherever you are, get a professional to inspect your home, and have a quality termite management system installed.

Termite Inspections are an absolute necessity if you want to keep your home in good shape. Employing the services of a good, local and independent termite specialist is usually the best option to get a quality inspection. In many cases, the smaller businesses with say, 3-4 technicians are likely to be the better choice as there is better quality control and usually poor quality technicians are discovered more quickly and ousted from the company. Many of the big companies might seem like the quality choice, but to them, each job is simply a numbers game, and quality often goes out the window.

A quality inspector will usually have a minimum of 5 years experience, and have a good understanding of construction methods. This knowledge helps them identify possible termite entry pathways and provide a homeowner with methods to reduce the risk of termite attack. Quality equipment is also an important part of the termite professionals arsenal. A good LED torch, a quality moisture meter and Microwave devices such as a Termtrac T3i are valuable to an inspector. Thermal cameras can be helpful at times, but most of the time, these items are simply a tool which looks more valuable than it really is. A knowledgeable inspector will have all the right equipment and provide sound advice. Australian Standards require a minimum list of items required by an inspector.

You have a termite inspection done annually-at the very least. In areas of high risk, or at properties with conditions conducive to termite attack, a termite inspection every 6 months or less would be recommended. Your termite inspector should evaluate the risk of your property with conducive conditions (such as drainage and moisture levels mind), existing termite management (ie termite baits and/or barriers), termite pressure on the property, and an overall risk of termite presence in the area.

Some areas carry a higher prevalence of termite presence than others…For example, The Eastern Seaboard of Australia, from Port Maquarie North is considered a high risk zone for termite activity. Areas like The Northern Rivers, Tweed Valley and Tweed Coast, Gold Coast, Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast are all hotspots which see high levels of population, and a high incidence of termite attack on property. There are lots of other areas also, and the risk is just as high in areas where population levels are lower but there is just not the amount of reported damage.

So, getting a smaller, boutique company with a bit more accountability is recommended, and while you have your inspector on site, use their knowledge. Ask questions and clarify anything you might want to know. Get their recommendations on how to best protect your property and possibly the best question to ask, starts with… “So, if this was your home….”

DIY termite protection is big business. Backyard manufacturers producing an array of products which claim to be the answer to the DIY Termite protection issue, all make their claims based on testimonials from homeowners, and ‘research’ which is simply cannot be verified.

Within the termite management industry, there are only a few products which professionals use confidently to protect their customers homes.

In terms of chemical treatment, ‘fiprinol’ is the most now commonly used product for spot treatment of live termites and chemical treated zones. It’s non repellency properties mean that termites are not deterred by its presence, and so termites are unknowingly infecting themselves with the lethal product 24 hrs a day, which is a simple but laborious task to implement.

In terms of professional termite baits, the main 4 professionally used systems are Sentricon ‘Always Active’, Exterra, Termatrix, and Nemisis. Sentricon has released an industry changing product which has simplified the baiting process for professionals, and provides ongoing 24hr termite protection with their ‘Always Active’ Termiticide rods, which are the attractant, AND the poison all in one product. Incidentally, this is the product which Termicure has adopted for the Termicure ‘Active’ Packs.

Exterra, has been the biggest player in professional termite baiting for some time. The stations are large, which allows for good volume of termite bait matrix to be applied, and they are easy to inspect. The Exterra Bait matrix is of the best quality, so there are limited failures which has haunted many other multinational bait producers.

Termitrix is a good product also, with large stations and a good termite bait matrix. This product has been closely modelled off many of the good features with the Exterra System, and are at a price point for the professional.

Nemisis, are a small termite bait station, with unknown bait matrix quality. Often, the matrix is fine, but then there are also instances where termites will vacate the station for no apparent reason, which can put doubt in the mind of the pest manager. This can happen with any bait matrix. The stations are also small, which limits the amount of bait which can be applied to the station, and they are also flimsy in construction. The Nemisis product is the cheaper option of the four main ones, and is often used by the less meticulous termite manager.

In any case, all of the above systems work to some degree, although some better than others.

The best advancement in the termite protection industry in the last 10 years has certainly been the introduction of the termiticide rod. Sentricon ‘Always Active’ Rods can be retrofitted into any existing Sentricon termite bait station, Exterra or Termatrix. The Nemisis bait termite stations are too small to install the ‘Always Active’ Rods, and so some modification has to be undertaken to retrofit with these baits.

The key advantage of the termiticide rods is that termites do not have to be identified in a station to begin applying the poison. The process is automated, with the termiticide rods attracting termites to them for feeding, and then also poisoning the colony for eradication. This removes the key step of having to apply a bait matrix to active termite bait stations. The process may well be already underway before you are even aware that the stations are being attacked. This removes many of the pitfalls which haunt professionals, such as contaminated bait matrix, inconsistent bait matrix, contaminated water, accidental contamination by the termite manager etc…

Once the Termiticide Rods are installed, termite protection is underway.

This is the reason that Termicure has combined their termite baiting product with the ‘Always Active’ Rods. As a well known DIY Termite Baiting product, we saw the opportunity to make the termite baiting process as fool proof as possible for the homeowner. The Termicure ‘Active Packs’ are specifically designed for the most simple termite baiting process available for the homeowner to save money.

The introduction of the revolution in termiticide rods has been a breakthrough for the homeowner, and we are riding the wave. Sentricon has changed the playing field with termite baiting, and we couldn’t be happier to be providing suitable advances directly to the homeowner at a fraction of the cost charged by the professionals.

‘Revolutionary’ is the term used for the release of the all in one termite bait system…

Termite Baits have been around for decades as a viable form of termite protection, but as much as it might seem a good DIY option, where large amounts of money can be saved, it’s really not that simple…until the release of the ‘Termiticide Rod’.

Termiticide Rods replace the timbers inserted into traditional termite bait stations. Just like the timbers, they slowly break down in the stations, giving off CO2, which attracts termites to feed. The difference is in the next step. Instead of having to first identify the presence of active termites in a station, and then mixing and adding a termite bait matrix which eradicates the termite colony, the termiticide rod is already taking out the colony.

You see, the Sentricon ‘Always Active’ Termiticide Rods are impregnated with hexaflumuron, which the attacking termites become dependent on, continually feeding on the rods until colony eradication. The only step the homeowner has had to take to achieve this, is simply the installation of a termite bait system around their home. The step of identification of active termites has been removed, along with the task of applying a termite bait matrix which is often enough to cause termites to vacate. There is also the ‘forgetfu’ factor, where homeowners install termite bait systems and simply forget to check them in which case termites come and consume the sacrificial timbers and then move on to the house. Well none of this will happen with the termiticide rods…the food source termites foraging termites find in the soil, is the same product which eliminates them.

Termite Bait timbers fully consumed and vacated prior to bait matrix being applied-Opportunity lost.

As the termiticide rod is the attractant AND poison, the entire process is reduced to installation, and simple monitoring of the rods ensuring that they are replaced if depleted by termites. Once a rod has had approximately 50% of it’s mass consumed, then it is time to replace it, or simply add another rod to the station.

Termiticide Rods partially consumed by termites, eradicating the threat.

Brisbane Termite Protection options range from physical, chemical to visual barriers where the perimeter of a building is accessible.

Physical Termite Barriers rely on a physical product which cannot be penetrated by termites, forcing them to the building exterior, or to a place where they can be seen, and consequently treated. Products such as Kordon, Termimesh and Homeguard are all examples of Brisbane Termite Protection.

Visual barrier are not as common as one would think, but Coral Homes are renowned for it throughout the Brisbane Termite Protection circles. A slab which protrudes at least 75mm from the perimeter walls, with a horizontal inspection zone is their ‘signature perimeter termite management system, which does not always please the eye, but certainly does the trick if you are a vigilant homeowner. This is not common, and most exposed slab issues are caused by termites crossing the inspection zone where landscaping has been installed to the building exterior, or because tenanted properties are not always cared for like an owner occupier.

Chemical barriers, create a chemically treated zone about the perimeter of a building which kills termites. This is an effective tool which works 24hrs day and night, and requires no real maintenance. Termite Baiting Systems are also a common post construction termite management method, and are popular, because they can be installed and successfully managed by the homeowner.

Brisbane termite protection options are quite varied, although if your home has not been built with physical termite protection, then either a termite barrier (chemical), or a Termite Baiting System are your common and most effective options.

A termite barrier will need to be installed by a Brisbane Termite Protection specialist, where an ‘Active ‘ Termite Baiting System can be installed by the homeowner for less than half of the cost of any other suitable method.

Purchasing a property in Brisbane (or anywhere in fact) is a stressful affair because of the hectic real estate market. Getting your pre purchase building inspection report and deciphering the information can be a difficult task, however the one thing which is always recommended is the termite protection Brisbane is super important.

Brisbane is one of the highest risk areas across the country, so ensuring that your Brisbane property has good protection is essential. The CSIRO has undertaken significant research regarding the areas at most risk of termite activity, and The Eastern seaboard between Port Macquarie and Cape York, rates at the highest, with certain pockets extremely active throughout the other states.

So your termite professional will recommend one of two options when it comes to termite management. They will be a chemical soil treatment (known as a termite barrier) or a Termite Baiting System. Termite baiting systems are a simple concept where palatable food sources are installed into baiting stations to attract termites, while the termite professional services these stations, poisoning the activity once they become active. This is a very time consuming operation, which requires just a little knowledge and not a great deal of skill. The process of installation and servicing can be expensive too, with installations running at around $3000 for the average home, and $1000 in annual servicing.

This is why we developed the Termicure Termite Baiting System, in conjunction with a Termiticide Rod. When it comes to termite protection Brisbane, the Termicure Active product will keep your costs to a minimum, while providing professional protection. The Termicure Termite Baiting System has been specifically designed to guide the homeowner through protecting their homes, without the need for expensive serving and maintenance of the baits. Termite Protection Brisbane is one thing, but paying more than price what you should be is another.
