In most homeowners minds, a termite bait kit contains all of the ingredients to simply install into the ground around their home. Install the stations, place the ingredients into the stations and then just wait for the termites to attack the timber inserts and check it every now and then to make sure they are keeping on top of things. NOT TRUE! There is nothing to kill termites! These systems if not professionally baited, with specific products, then you’re just going to attract termites to a food source which has been placed extremely close to your house. You might as well send out an invitation to attacking termites!

This DIY Termite baiting attempt resulted in the attacking termites consuming the timbers in the baits, then moving into the house before the homeowner even knew the station was active.
With simple modification, this Nemisis system could have been retrofitted with the Termiticide Rods to prevent system neglect and failure.

If you don’t know much about termite baits, or the various DIY termite bait kits on the market, then you’ll realise that most DIY termite bait kits are just timber. There is no poison, no pre mixed bait matrix to kill the colony integrated into the stations. In many terms, the DIY termite bait industry is bordering on a scam…

Enter Termicure and the Sentricon ‘Always Active’ Termiticide Rods. The ‘Always Active’ Rods, replace the timber as the product which attracts the termites. Being ‘laced’ with an insect growth regulator called Hexaflumuron, the Always Active Rods have revolutionised termite baiting. These Termiticide Rods are designed to kill attacking termite colonies as they feed on them. The termites become unable to feed on other products and become dependent on the food source that’s going to kill off the nest.

Termicure Sentricon Always Active refills

Currently, the Sentricon Rods are only available from commercial Pest Control Suppliers and their sale is restricted to termite professionals. Being such a simple procedure to successfully protect property, we developed our packs which include these rods, and we supply them directly to the homeowner. Basically, these are a pre packaged professional termite bait kits which can be easily used and successfully installed to kill termites as they make their way around your property.

termite traps diy

The process is simple. Just install your Termicure termite bait stations, and drop the rods in. One rod in each station, and clip the lid into place. Now its a matter of just checking the stations about every 8 weeks. The rods will last up to (likely in excess of) 5 years unless depleted by termites.

Don’t buy termite baits until you’ve read this simple explanation of what you are buying…and what you want to protect.

Most termite baits are made out of the same materials your home is built out of – Timber. In ground termite baits are commonly installed in the grounds around the exterior of your home, in an attempt to attract termites to the timber installed in the stations. If termites are located in the stations during regular checks, a poison is then applied to the station with the goal of eradicating an entire termite colony and lowering the risk of a termite attack.

Let’s highlight that process again… Your home is made from timber, so you place timber around your home, however most homes have a far larger food source of timber than any termite baiting system could ever hope to contain. It’s like owning a Gingerbread House, and sprinkling a jar of gingerbread crumbs around it to protect it from ordinary sugar ants…

This is only the first stage of the termite baiting process. So once you’ve, installed, serviced and checked your stations, and then identified termite activity in one or more of the stations, you then need to introduce a DIFFERENT product, in order to kill off the threat. Let’s look at the feeding and eradication process, using the Gingerbread House again as our example.

So you’ve used the Gingerbread crumbs, to attract ants to your house of Gingerbread, and you’ve finally hit the jackpot. Ant’s are chowing down on the crumbs you’ve expertly spread about the place. The ants are hooking in, so then you decide to throw some chemically laced crumbs in with the original crumbs, in the hope they’ll stop what they are feasting on, to feed on a something else containing a poison. While this concept has some success, it’s far from reliable, and with your home on the menu, I’d recommend you look for a proven alternative which is where the Termiticide Rods have changed the game in the professional termite world. This is why we recommend that you don’t buy Termite Baits until you have armed yourself with this knowledge.

Sentricon ‘Always Active’ Termiticide Rods are a termite bait, which have been infused with a colony killing toxin, called Hexaflumuron. The Termiciticide Rods are non toxic to humans or domestic pets, and has been formulated to MORE palatable than timber…So lets head back to our gingerbread house.

This time, instead of throwing gingerbread crumbs about the house to keep the ants out, we’ll use a toxic icing. The icing is far more attractive to the ants than the gingerbread, and from the moment the ants begin to feed on it, they become dependent on it. They become unable to consume anything else, and continues it’s addiction to the very product which will kill off the entire colony. There is no need to do the old ‘bait and switch’, and hope that they don’t notice. Feeding continues undisturbed until the entire colony has been eradicated.

This is how the Sentricon ‘Always Active’ Rods work, there’s less chance of upsetting the feeding termites with inferior bait matrix, human error or contamination, and there’s less interruption to the stations. The Termiticide Rods are already doing their job before you’ve identified the termites in the station. It’s faster, simpler and easier to manage as a homeowner and a professional, and more successful. For someone looking for the simplest and most reliable form of termite baiting, it’s the only real viable choice for DIY Termite Baits.

So don’t just google DIY ‘Termite Baits’, and order the first DIY Termite Baits you can find, look carefully at the products and whether or not they contain the Termiticide Rods, like the Termicure ‘Active’ packs.

If you have an existing baiting system installed at your home, then you may not have to go and buy an entire new baiting kit, as the Termitcide Rods can be retrifitted into many other systems such as Exterra, Termatrix and Nemisis.

So, don’t buy termite baits if you think you’re going to have a simple and cheap product to protect your home. Insist on spending a bit extra and getting the systems containing the termiticide rods…and keep your gingerbread house in one piece!

‘Revolutionary’ is the term used for the release of the all in one termite bait system…

Termite Baits have been around for decades as a viable form of termite protection, but as much as it might seem a good DIY option, where large amounts of money can be saved, it’s really not that simple…until the release of the ‘Termiticide Rod’.

Termiticide Rods replace the timbers inserted into traditional termite bait stations. Just like the timbers, they slowly break down in the stations, giving off CO2, which attracts termites to feed. The difference is in the next step. Instead of having to first identify the presence of active termites in a station, and then mixing and adding a termite bait matrix which eradicates the termite colony, the termiticide rod is already taking out the colony.

You see, the Sentricon ‘Always Active’ Termiticide Rods are impregnated with hexaflumuron, which the attacking termites become dependent on, continually feeding on the rods until colony eradication. The only step the homeowner has had to take to achieve this, is simply the installation of a termite bait system around their home. The step of identification of active termites has been removed, along with the task of applying a termite bait matrix which is often enough to cause termites to vacate. There is also the ‘forgetfu’ factor, where homeowners install termite bait systems and simply forget to check them in which case termites come and consume the sacrificial timbers and then move on to the house. Well none of this will happen with the termiticide rods…the food source termites foraging termites find in the soil, is the same product which eliminates them.

Termite Bait timbers fully consumed and vacated prior to bait matrix being applied-Opportunity lost.

As the termiticide rod is the attractant AND poison, the entire process is reduced to installation, and simple monitoring of the rods ensuring that they are replaced if depleted by termites. Once a rod has had approximately 50% of it’s mass consumed, then it is time to replace it, or simply add another rod to the station.

Termiticide Rods partially consumed by termites, eradicating the threat.

So take the main principles of termite bait station protection from termites and remove the parts where the system often fails. That’s what has been changed in the revolution of the termiricide rod.

Visit our shop to purchase termiticide rods, and simplify termite protection at your home.

If you are looking to protect your home on the Gold Coast Termite Protection is one of those things where the more people you speak to, the more options you’ll be presented with. Not only is this confusing, but you’ll be swayed by the best salesman, and their preferred method, which may or may not reflect the best termite protection option.

For example, many Gold Coast Termite Protection ‘specialists’ will encourage you to install a fully service termite baiting system, which is fine if your home is built on a hill, with multiple split level sections and concealed slab joins or inaccessible areas, but if your home is slab on ground, then it’s lily that your pest manager is simply swaying your opinion to suit their own agenda. with a slab on ground home, the most common point of entry for active termites, is via the perimeter, in which case, a chemical soil treatment to the perimeter of the building would provide you with the best all round termite protection.

Many Gold Coast Termite Protection ‘specialists’, simply have not invested in the expensive spray rigs to undertake chemical soil treatments, so they’ll offer a termite baiting system and rely on their sales skills to sell it to the customer as the best option.

A termite baiting system does not require any specific training or qualifications. Guidelines do need to be followed in order the achieve a good level of coverage, but this information is quite simple to obtain. The basic principle is that termite bait stations should be placed at 3 metre intervals about the ‘drip line’ of a structure. A good explanation of termite bait placement is provided in the installation and maintenance guide in every Termicure ‘Active’ Pack.

Termite Baiting system installation CAN be a cash cow for termite professionals, however when done correctly, and properly maintained, they can provide an exceptional level of termite protection to specific structures and homes.

The basic principle of termite baiting is to provide attractive food sources at specific intervals about the property, which encourage them to feed and in turn, feeding on an impregnated food source capable of full termite colony eradication.

The the question of Termite Bait Protection is asked, many homeowners will have a termite professional visit their home to provide a quote, and then wonder why the costs are so high? Well, it’s a pretty simple answer. The costs of running a service based business are on the rise, and keeping great staff is becoming increasingly difficult so wages are also on the rise.

Termite Bait Protection can be successfully installed and managed as a DIY project, and you can literally save $thousands of $$.

We will never discount the value of having a professional termite manager service your home, but when it comes to termite bait protection, the homeowner is as capable of installing a successful system as any Termite Professional, provided that suitable products are used and that the correct guidelines are followed for bait station placement.

Lets look at the sums. So, based off an actual quote for the installation of 24 termite bait stations and the first year of bait station servicing provided to a 4 bedroom home in Buderim, you’ll see the significant cost saving available for the savvy homeowner. The system quoted is a Termitrix system, combining the Sentricon ‘Always Active’ Termiticide Rods. (Please note that many Termite Professionals still use conventional termite bait systems, which exclude the Termiticide Rods. These systems do not contain the expensive products which attract and eradicate termites in one. They simply contain timber to attract termites to the stations. Further additional of a bait matrix is required for termite eradication, which can be difficult and time consuming-more expensive)

The combined cost of the installation and 12 months initial serving totals $2904GST Inclusive for 24 Termite Bait Stations installed into soil areas at approximately 3 metre intervals about the perimeter of the home. Included is 12 months service and maintenance on the termite bait stations with a replacement cost of $77 per termiticide rod as consumed by termites. Maintenance visits are at 12 week intervals, which means that an employee will visit 4 times in the first year to check on the stations.

This is a very competitive quote, with many Pest Managers charging well over $3500 for a similar installation.

On the other hand, the DIY Installation with a Termicure ‘Active’ System including the same Sentricon Termiticide Rods comes in at a far more manageable figure of $1320. Yes, there is going to be some elbow grease required to install the stations, and a 3 monthly station check is required. A guide for station placement and servicing is provided with experienced and qualified online and phone support at hand if you are uncertain about anything.

Even if you are not interested in doing the installation yourself, but decide employ a labourer of handyman to do the job at $50 per hour (a more than fair rate for the task), and the job was to take 4 hours, the additional $200 spent is still around half of what you would pay for the same termite bait protection.

One of the misconceptions about termite baiting is that you need to be qualified to install them-you don’t. Many professionals use unskilled labour for installs, and often servicing. This simply creates a huge cost saving and free’s up a qualified technician to earn the pest control business on other inspection or treatment work.

So, if you are considering Termite Bait Protection, then do your sums and ask LOTS of questions.

Every home should have some form of termite management, and the simplest, most affordable is a termite baiting system.

Whether it’s a professionally installed Exterra termite baiting system, or its a DIY Termicure System, just having a termite baiting system to monitor the termite activity around your home puts you in the picture to protect yourself. Of course, there is no better termite baiting system than a fully managed professional system, but paying a professional to do much of what the average homeowner can do themselves can be financially out of reach for many.

Installing a termite baiting system which allows you to keep an eye on the termite activity around the property, keeps you aware of the risks present, and keeps termites at the forefront of your mind so the risk of an undetected attack is lowered. Installation of a termite baiting system, such as the Termicure Termite Baiting System, allows the homeowner to have a variety of treatment options available to help eradicate an attacking colony.

As discussed before, many termite baiting systems simply don’t allow for multiple treatment methods, severely restricting the ability for your termite baiting system installation to do it’s job properly. In our opinion, a termite MONITORING system certainly helps to determine the risk of a termite attack on your home, but it allows you no, or little option for successful treatment and colony eradication.

The key points which makes the Termicure Termite Baiting System so much more viable than the others on the market, is flexibility. Choosing a Termite Baiting System which allows for conventional Termite baiting and feeding, installation of the latest Sentricon ‘Always Active’ Termiticide Rods, and a variety of liquid foam and dust spot treatments is ideal. Because the Termicure Termite Baiting System was initially released solely as a professional termite baiting system, all treatment options were factored into the design. It wasn’t until we approached the option of an affordable DIY Termite Baiting System, that we adapted any of the materials for simplicity, making it easy for the homeowner to manage a professional termite baiting system at home.

So, whether you have a professionally installed termite baiting system, or you are managing your own termite baiting system at your property, you are heading in the right direction. Protection of your property is our goal, and whether you have our own Termicure Termite Baiting System installed, or onwe of about 50 others available on the market today, we are glad that you have something in place, and that you are conscious of the threat of a termite attack on your property. Now you’re eager to speed the process up. Well, with our DIY Termite Baits, there is no need.

Simply install your DIY Termite Baits as per the installation guide. Wait a minimum of 1 month before getting curious, then check all of your stations.

The Termicure Termite Bait Stations will become more attractive to foraging termites as time goes on. Due to the decay of the attractant materials giving off CO2, the system becomes more effective over time. Sometimes, termite baits will remain untouched by termites for years. However, in some cases they will become active within a week or two.

The 2nd Generation Termicure Termite Baiting System has been redesigned to provide a longer period between system checks. The attractant materials are specifically assembled to provide the most palatable food source for attacking termites. We have also added materials which will keep termites feeding in the stations longer.

Previously, our original Termicure Termite Baiting system was almost too effective. Termites would consume the attractants much faster, which was great. However, if you failed to check your bait stations at monthly intervals, often there would not be enough materials in the station to maintain feeding. This reduces the window of opportunity to apply treatment to gain termite colony control.

This is an issue which most of the big name bait stations have, however there are only one or two companies who are looking to resolve the issue. Improvements to an established Termite bait system cost time and money. Many manufacturers purposely limit the attractant materials installed in their termite bait stations. This necessitates more frequent visits to the property by Pest Control operators with contract customers.

Other termite bait companies produce a very good termite bait station for attracting termites, but lack the ability to apply the toxins to the colony. The termite bait stations which are simply a wedge shaped block of timber installed directly into the soil, contain a huge food source for foraging termites. Unfortunately, they have absolutely no provision for application of a termite bait matrix. This severely limits the methods of colony treatment available. This design fault and can actually turn a termite protection system, into a hazard inviting termites to your property.

So, with these issues in mind, we have created the best DIY Termite Baits to give you an outstanding termite protection system for your home.
